From my experience, no. I use Krud Kutter to clean my furniture before painting with Heirloom Traditions Paint, and the paint has stuck well.
Whether you use Heirloom Traditions Deglosser or Krud Kutter, it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Just make sure you clean your surface well before painting!

What Kind of Paint is Heirloom Traditions Paint?
Heirloom Traditions Paint is an all-in-one paint that truly doesn’t need a primer most of the time, or a topcoat ever! It has excellent adhesion and durability… better than chalk paint!!
It is waterbased, so cleanup is easy with soap and warm water. Heirloom Traditions Paint has a satin sheen so it’s easy to keep it looking clean. It can also be used on indoor and outdoor projects.
It definitely is NOT chalk paint, though the finish you can get from it is similar to chalk paint with a waterbased satin finish on top. Though, it’s much easier with Heirloom Traditions Paint.

You can get a “free sample” of Heirloom Traditions Paint to try. But there are a few steps you have to take to get it, and you’ll have to pay the $6.99 cost for shipping. Yeah, it’s not totally free, but $6.99 is still a better deal than the regular price of $16.99 plus the cost of shipping!)
First, go to this Free Sample shop page, then scroll through the colors and pick the color you want. You can then click the “Customize and Add to Cart” button, or scroll to the bottom of the page and enter your selection.

Is Heirloom Traditions Paint self leveling?
If you want a self leveling paint, then Heirloom Traditions Paint may not be the best option for you. While it is an all-in-one paint that has excellent adhesion and durability, it is not self leveling. This means that if you use a brush or roller to apply the paint, you may see some marks and texture in the finish.
However, this can easily be avoided by spraying the paint instead. This will give you a smooth and flawless finish without any visible brush marks. So if you have access to a paint sprayer, Heirloom Traditions Paint can still be a great choice for your furniture painting projects. If you don’t have one but want to invest in one, here are the best HVLP paint sprayers for furniture that you can get.
But don’t let the lack of self leveling discourage you from trying out Heirloom Traditions Paint. It still has many great qualities and can provide a beautiful finish on your furniture. You can also learn the ways how to paint furniture without brush marks here to minimize any visible texture in the finish.
Can I mix different colors of Heirloom Traditions Paint to create a custom color?
Yes, you can definitely mix different colors of Heirloom Traditions Paint! In fact, this is a great way to create a custom color that perfectly matches your design vision. While Heirloom Traditions Paint has over 50 colors in their collection, you may have a specific shade in mind that is not available.
When mixing colors of Heirloom Traditions Paint, it’s important to keep track of the ratios used so you can replicate the color if needed. You should also mix enough paint for your entire project at once, as it can be difficult to recreate the same color if you run out midway through.
And don’t forget to test the color on a small patch of furniture before applying it to the whole piece. This will guarantee that you’re happy with the final result.
