Klean Strip

Klean Strip is a highly effective chemical stripper that can remove even the toughest wood stains. This powerful formula can tackle multiple layers of paint, varnish, and polyurethane with ease, saving you time and effort in the process.

One of the great things about Klean Strip is its fast-acting formula which means you can complete your project in just a few hours.

In terms of application, Klean Strip is easy to use. All you need to do is brush it evenly onto the surface you wish to strip, wait for between 15 and 30 minutes for it to penetrate the surface, then scrape away the softened stain and topcoat using a putty knife or scraper.

You’ll have to remove the leftover residue with mineral spirits or afterwash to get the surface completely clean.

It’s worth noting that Klean Strip is highly flammable, so it’s essential to take appropriate safety precautions when using it. This also means that it has a lot of fumes and has a very strong smell. So please protect yourself when using this stripper!

Overall, Klean Strip is an excellent choice for anyone looking to remove wood stains quickly and efficiently.

Citristrip

Citristrip is a safer and more eco-friendly option for people looking to strip wood stains without exposing themselves or the environment to harmful toxins.

One of the most significant benefits of Citristrip is that it does not have strong and noxious fumes like other chemical strippers, making it possible to use indoors or in areas with minimal ventilation.

While Citristrip takes a little bit longer to work than other chemical strippers, it is well worth it for those who are looking for a safer and more natural product.

Check out How to Remove Wood Stain, where we used Citristrip.

I like to let a thick layer of Citristrip sit on the wood stain for a few hours to allow it to penetrate through the varnish and stain deeply. By the time I’m ready to scrape it off, all the layers have dissolved and are ready to be wiped clean.

You will need to remove the excess residue with mineral spirits or afterwash.

Overall, Citristrip is a fantastic option for those who want to avoid harsh fumes, but don’t want to pay top dollar for a better stripper and are willing to take a little bit more time to strip away wood stains effectively.

Stripwell QCS

Another great wood stain remover and my personal favorite is Stripwell QCS. (Use code “SUNLIGHT10” to get 10% off your order). It is a unique option for those looking to strip wood stains with ease and without harsh fumes.

While it may be more expensive than other chemical strippers, it provides excellent results and is quick and easy to use.

One of the most significant benefits of Stripwell QCS is that it is almost completely non-toxic, making it safe to use indoors. Check out this Painted Armoire Makeover where we used Stripwell QCS.

It also has a unique formula that doesn’t require mineral spirits or other cleaners to clean off the gunk after stripping, simplifying the process and saving you time and money. It also is not flammable! So you don’t have to worry there!

However, Stripwell QCS may not be as effective on modern wood finishes, and its effectiveness can vary on different finishes. I haven’t seen it not work yet though! It’s also not readily available in stores and may require ordering online.

Simply spray the Stripwell QCS onto your surface, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then repeat that step 1 more time. Then scrape off the stain and varnish with a scraper.

Just like with the others, you can use wet steel wool to scrub off stubborn spots. Wipe everything off, and spray more QCS to remove the excess gunk.

WOW!! You really know & explain so well. Thank you! That is not my problem, however. I have a painted china cabinet that is painted and I want to lighten it up a shade or two. I tried washing with Awesome, Ammonia, Spic & Span——-it cleaned it up but did not give me the results I wanted.

Is there anything else I can do?

    1. Thanks for the love. Im afraid I don’t understand. If it’s painted, and you want to lighten it up, you can paint it a lighter shade. Cleaning it wouldn’t lighten up stain or paint that was put on properly. If strong enough, it would remove the paint altogether.
