It said “Hello Love.” Then on the back, I wrote a little love note to him. He LOVED it! Ever since then, I’ve used that little hello love sign all over.

In photos of furniture, on our farmhouse shelf, for nightstand decor and decor on top of a dresser. This little sign has been my go-to piece of decor throughout our home.

So, with Valentine’s Day coming up, I decided I wanted to make him another Valentine’s Day sign.

And, I wanted to share the design with you, so then you can make your own gift for your spouse (or just as farmhouse decoration haha).

How to Make Small Wooden Love Sign

Now is the time to make your wood sign!

You have a couple of options to get started: you can either visit your local craft or hardware store and choose from a wide selection of ready-made wood signs, or if there’s no size and design that you like, you can just purchase a piece of wood and have them cut it to your desired size.

Cut List for Small Wooden Love Sign

For these love signs, we used 1″ x 6″ common board, cut at 5 1/2″ each. (The 1″ x 6″ board is really 5 1/2″ wide, so it works out to be a perfect square.)

Then we cut the furring strips into (2) 5 1/2″ long pieces and (2) 6 3/4″ long pieces. You can see the process and get the material list from our tutorial linked above.

Start by picking out any of our FREE love template. Print out the template of your choice and cut the template to size of the sign
Place the graphite paper (dark side down) onto the sign, and then place the template on top. Tape the template in place.
Carefully trace the outline of the design using a pencil. Take your time for accuracy and precision. Once you have finished tracing, gently remove the template and graphite paper, revealing your beautifully outlined design.
Grab a sharpie pen in your favorite color and start coloring in the love quote on your sign. Take your time and be creative with your color choices.
