Trace Wood Blocks onto Book Pages

To begin this DIY project, grab your old book pages and place them on a flat surface. Next, take your wood blocks and gently trace around them with a pencil.

Don’t worry about the exact shape of the paper – it’s okay if they’re slightly larger than the wood blocks since we’ll be trimming them later. Just make sure you have enough pages traced for each block.

Tear Book Pages

Once you have traced the wood blocks onto the book pages, it’s time to get that rustic look.

Use your hands to gently tear out the squares instead of using scissors. This will create a more natural and uneven edge, adding to the vintage charm.

As you’re tearing the pages, keep in mind that they don’t have to be perfect.

In fact, the more imperfect and rough they are, the better! This will add character to your wooden sign and make it truly one-of-a-kind.

Lastly, gather all of the torn book pages and arrange them in a way that you like on top of each wood block.

You can layer them on top of each other or have just one page per block – it’s up to you! Once you’re satisfied with the arrangement, move on to the next step.

Glue Book Pages to Wood Blocks

The gluing process is where your I Love You wood sign really takes shape. Carefully secure the book pages onto the wood blocks, making sure they’re arranged exactly how you want them.

Play around with the placement before gluing everything down to see what looks best to you.

Use a generous amount of hot glue or adhesive to make sure the pages stay in place. Press down firmly to guarantee they are securely attached to the blocks.

Once all of your book pages are glued onto the wood blocks and have dried, you can trim off any extra paper around the edges.

This will give your sign a cleaner look and make the pages fit perfectly onto the blocks.

Paint I Love You on Wood Blocks

With the wood blocks now covered in old book pages, it’s time to paint the words “I Love You.”

Get your acrylic paint and paintbrush ready, and start by painting each letter onto the blocks. You can also draw a heart for the word “love” to add a cute touch, just like we did.

We used white and red acrylic paint, but you can choose any colors you’d like! Pink is also a popular choice for Valentine’s Day. This step is where you can really personalize the sign to fit your own style and taste.

Once you’ve painted all of the letters, let them dry completely. You don’t want to smudge the paint while handling the blocks.

Decorate and Display I Love You Wood Sign

If you want to add more personalization to your I Love You wood sign, you can decorate it with small trinkets or embellishments.

For example, you can glue on some small heart-shaped buttons or add some glitter for a touch of sparkle.
